Delta Omega

Delta Omega is the honorary society for graduate studies in public health. The society was founded in 1924 at the then School of Hygiene and Public Health at Johns Hopkins University, when only a few graduate schools of public health existed in the United States. The Society now has chapters in over 60 Council on Education for Public Health ( CEPH)-accredited schools and programs providing advanced public health degrees. The Beta Sigma Chapter of Delta Omega at the University of Miami was first chartered in 2009. The mission of the Beta Sigma Chapter at the University of Miami is to: confer distinction for high achievement, promote leadership development, promote scholarship and encourage intellectual development, and establish collaboration between students, faculty, and alumni.

Chapter Activities

  • Two professional development activities per semester led by current faculty and/or Ph.D. students such as: “How to Critique a Scientific Journal”, and “How to Present at a Public Health Poster Session”
  • Health Fair Collaboration with   PHSA  per academic year based on the five cores of the Department of Public Health Sciences: Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Prevention Science and Community Health, Environmental Health, and Health Services and Research Policy
  • Other networking and mentoring opportunities
