Internships

Internships are a great way to gain experience in public health. Below is a list of internships in alphabetical order offered annually by various public health organizations.

AIDS Foundation of Chicago

  • Unpaid internships offered throughout the year, the minimum requirement is 15 hours/week
  • Application deadlines vary

AIDS United The Pedro Zamora Public Policy Fellowship

  • 30 hours per week for 8-26 weeks and includes a stipend
  • Fall, spring, and summer internships available
  • Estimated summer application deadline: March 15

Alliance for Health Policy

  • Internships may be available in Washington, DC for summer, fall or spring

AmeriCares

  • Summer internship program in Stamford, CT with internships in Global Programs, Development, Communications
  • Eligible for a modest stipend payment
  • Summer internship application available in January

ASPPH Public Health Internship

  • Paid 10-week summer internship program in Washington, DC
  • Application opens in February

CDC Summer Graduate Environmental Health Internship (GEH)

  • Paid, nine-week summer internship
  • US Citizenship or Permanent Resident with green card required
  • Application deadline is in November

Duke University Sanford School of Public Policy Global Health Fellows Program

  • Program components include a required five-day intensive course on “Health Policy in a Globalizing World” and placement in a health policy-related internship in Geneva
  • The program is from May-August
  • Application deadline: November 24, 2014, at 11:59 PM Eastern Standard Tim

U.S. FDA Office of Policy Internships

  • Apply in December for a summer internship, April for a fall internship, and August for a spring internship

HRSA Public Health Internship Program

  • Unpaid internship offered each semester

HRTP: A Public Health Internship Program at the NYC Health Department

  • Unpaid internships are offered summer, spring, and fall
  • Application deadline is February 15 for summer internships

Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai International Exchange Program for Minority Students

  • Paid summer research experience for underrepresented minorities in the health sciences as per NIH definition
  • Application deadline is January 31

IMPAQ  International

  • Paid internships with research experience in economics, health policy, social policy, public policy, or related field

James A. Ferguson Emerging Infectious Diseases Fellowship Program

  • A CDC-funded, nine-week summer program providing educational and professional development opportunities for fellows interested in infectious diseases research and health disparities
  • Applications for Summer 2019 will open November 1st, 2018

Lupus Foundation of America Gina M. Finzi Memorial Student Summer Fellowship Program

  • Paid summer opportunity
  • Application opens in January and the estimated application deadline is March

Mayo Clinic Biomedical Statistics and Informatics Internship

  • Paid summer internship in Rochester, MN for a minimum of 10 weeks
  • Application opens in mid-December and closes in early January

NIH Summer Internship Program in Biomedical Research

NCI Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics Summer Research Internship

  • Paid 8-10 summer internship in Rockville, MD
  • The application process begins in mid-November and ends on March 1

Occupational Health Internship Program

  • 9 week, paid summer internship dedicated to helping students learn more about the field of occupational safety and health (OSH) from those most at stake: working people

  • Estimated application deadline is mid-March

  • Unpaid internship located in Washington, DC
  • Applications accepted on a rolling basis

Office of Inspector General, Student Volunteer Internship Program

  • In the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services
  • Unpaid internship opportunities are available at OI Headquarters and all Regional Office and Field Office locations (more than 70 locations)

Pan American Health Organization (PAHO)

  • Must speak English, Spanish, Portuguese, and/or French
  • Summer internship application available Dec. 1 – Jan. 31

Real-World Exposure and Advocacy in Community Health (REACH) Summer Internship Program

  • 9-week paid summer internship program in Oakland, CA
  • Fluency in an Asian language is required, with priority for Cantonese, Mandarin, Vietnamese, Cambodian, and Korean
  • Apply by mid-March

UMass Amherst Internships, Practicums, and Volunteer Experiences

  • UMass Amherst School of Public Health and Health Sciences posts internship opportunities in Massachusetts and other locations

WHO Internships at Headquarters

  • Unpaid, 6 – 24 week full-time internships
  • Summer internship applications accepted in February, winter internship applications accepted in November
