Public Health is a broad degree that incorporates many other disciplines. DPHS blends together different areas from research to community intervention, there is something for every student. I picked the general track because I wanted to explore which areas of Public Health interests me but most importantly the program is located in the heart of the health district. There are so many opportunities to do research and help the community starting from your first semester.
Even though it's a very small program, everyone is always available to guide you even if you feel lost or not sure what to do next in order to graduate.
As a first generation student, it was important to continue finding opportunities to learn but also see what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.
Blackboard One Stop Shop
I wanted to find a way to get to know more of my peers and learn more about the department.
I'm not involved in the department but within the UM Community I'm a current member of the Iron Arrow Honor Society and an employee at the UHealth Tower within Patient Experience as a Customer Service Representative.
I hope to pursue a DrPH postgrad but before I start that journey, I will be taking a gap year. If I don't pursue a DrPH, I would like to apply to another job within UHealth to eventually end up in the higher administration. I want to focus on patient experience or healthcare administration.
It is okay to not have a solid plan every semester, things can change
I make time to workout a few times a week, and plan time to go out and socialize.
Any Outdoor Garden spot on campus.
It is okay to not know what will happen next semester or the next steps after graduation but always remember to put yourself first and make time for yourself.
I was born during a hurricane.
